How to Choose Flowers for Your Virtual Wedding This Year

| Wendy Han

2020 has been a pretty rough year, especially for couples who intended to tie the knot this year.

With health measures in place, it looks like virtual weddings are here to stay at least until mass gatherings are allowed once again in Singapore. While virtual weddings might be an unconventional way for couples to marry, it doesn’t mean you should neglect the wedding preparations like décor and flowers.

After all, guests are still going to be able to ‘attend’ virtually and you would want your wedding to be one of the best days of your life.

No idea where to start? No worries!

Believe it or not, choosing flowers for a virtual wedding is pretty much like selecting flowers for a regular wedding.

The only real difference is that you’ll probably need to focus on a couple of items (eg. bridal bouquet) and opt for flowers with brighter colours so that they stand out in your pictures and on screen so that they add life and colour to the virtual event.

If you are in the midst of preparing for your virtual wedding, we have just the guide for you! Read on for some wedding flower tips now.

1. Bridal Bouquet

While most of us probably won’t be doing a bouquet toss this year, that doesn’t mean you should wuss out on your bridal bouquet design. It is probably going to be one of the highlights in your pictures.

There may be numerous arrangements to choose from, but your best option for a virtual wedding is to go with a bridal bouquet with demure but bright colours. You want it to be visible on screen when your guests ‘attend’ your wedding virtually.

Plus, since you won’t be doing any bouquet toss, feel free to go with bigger and heavier bouquets!

One key tip is to find a bouquet from a florist that pairs well with the wedding dress. For instance, feel free to go with loud colours if the bride is donning a simple but elegant dress.

2. Venue Décor

One thing that should be a must-have at an online wedding is flower arches and floral décor. While you can't go all out with floral venue décor as you would at a live event, flower décor can be transformative for a virtual one.

They can give your wedding a touch of glamour and style. In addition to that, an arch is a symbol of the eternal knot that you are about to tie. Likewise, floral hoops can add a lot of colour to your wedding in the case that arches are not your thing. You can go for a chic combination of a floral wall and nice rustic floral hoops filled with flowers that mix and match well.

More importantly, floral décor can give you a great background to take wonderful wedding photos!

3. Floral centrepiece

The floral centrepiece must not only be eye-catching, but it should be an expression of love. For this, you need to be mindful of what types of flowers you are choosing for your centrepiece.

You are probably going to be filmed signing your marriage certificates with the floral centrepiece in the frame if you are having a virtual wedding, so you want to make sure it stands out for the right reasons.

Go with flowers like Calla lilies, peonies and roses of bright colours. Avoid white flowers and other species which represent death or negativity as you do not want to convey the wrong messages on your wedding day.

As anyone who has been a bridesmaid, putting a wedding together is no easy feat. Even if the ceremony is a virtual one, there is still so much that goes on behind-the-scenes. If you need some help getting your wedding flowers done, feel free to reach out to us!
